He is generally credited for inventing the fuzz box that we've been using since the 1960's. Seems an amplifier malfunction on a Marty Robbins recording led to the "discovery".
He was a sound engineer in Nashville, and in the late 60's opened up a recording studio called Woodland Sound. This was the studio where the first, Will the Circle Be Unbroken" album was recorded.
