Fellow Festivarians,

On opening day in 2014 I was running the tarp in for my camp via Town Park Camp line with a line number of approx 21.  As it turns out, this position would not be so lucky due to the fact that myself and about 3 others were met about 100 feet into our sprint by one of the security guards riding his mountain bike perpendicularly through our path(I found one video on YouTube of the run but it pans away before the collision).  I fell to the ground after colliding with the rear of the bike, got back up and finished the run.  I walked up to the guard on my way out and he was very apologetic.  Later that morning, the back of my knee swelled up and I was forced to keep it elevated and baby it for the remainder of the festival.  It has never fully recovered.

Forward to last year.  I had given my knee plenty of time to heal(over a year) but it still has an abnormal bulge on the back side.  Unhappy with my knee's condition and knowing full well that the security guard should not have been riding his bike though us runners, I contacted Planet Bluegrass last August in an effort to avoid having to pay my insurance deductible of $5,000.  Craig with Planet Bluegrass was very understanding but referred me to the INSURANCE COMPANY who handles claims for this event(IFG Companies - The Burlinton Ins. Co.), whom I contacted on 8/6/2015.

I just officially received a letter yesterday(over 6 months later) that the "investigation" has been completed and the insurance company does not consider their policyholder legally liable for the "alleged damages".  The letter also mentions that the STATUTE OF LIMITATION for bodily injury is 2 YEARS, which is fast approaching this festival year.  If you or someone you know who attended the 2014 festival was possibly involved or has video from the TBF Running of the Tarps on Thursday 2014, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards and hope to see you all this year!
Matt

So they don't believe you? And, they interviewed him and he changed his story? What gives if everyone's being honest?

Billy,

I'm not sure what exactly she did to verify the facts, the process wasn't ever that transparent.  One of my camp mates named Brian also went down but she never asked for his contact information when I mentioned him.  This doesn't even take into consideration the dozens of people who had contact with me that day and who heard about the INCIDENT.  Also, I can tell you that the security guard mentioned that he'd reported the incident to someone and the next day he even let my gal and I up front to record Friday's running because he felt so bad(still have the video).  So, basically it boils down to Plannet Bluegrass saying "no problem" and the Insurer saying "not the Plannet's problem".

Clearly, "watch out for bicycles coming straight at you!" isn't one of the last things I remember hearing from the guy who takes the tickets as I go by.  I have never had any problems with this knee before the tarp collision, and I certainly would take full responsibility if it were my own doing.  I should have had the first aid attendant document it when I saw them that day.

Matt,

So sorry to hear about your knee.  I knew something happened, but didn't know what exactly.

This isn't a pic of your incident, but it does show the situation you describe during TBF 2014, security on bike in path of tarp runners- left center of the pic.

Hi Cardio,

I do remember talking with you about this awhile ago; but, haven't thought about is since.

Let me look into it from my end with insurance company, etc.

Will you please send your phone number to ferg@bluegrass.com?

Thanks. And, sorry about this.

I have a video for the 20th and the 21st taken from in front of Run-a-Muk.  The 20th focuses pretty much on the front runners heading to the stage.
I have a longer video of the 21st, and this one does show bicycles passing right in front of runners.
PM me and I can share them with you if you think they'd help.
