I'm very excited to have won a spot to build an octave mandolin this year. If one of the luthiers, or someone who has made one in the past, give me an idea of the size of the kit instrument that would be helpful so I can bring a case to fly the thing home safely!

The kits come with a soft case, but I'm working on getting the dimensions for you if you fancy a hard case to bring with you.

Cheers

The man, the myth, the legend....luthier Michael Hornick sent me this:

"The body is 11 inches wide and 12 1/4" with the neck being another 20". Total length is 32 1/4".  The body depth is 2 1/4 inches with a 5/8" bridge height."

He's apparently had a hard time finding hard cases in the past, though I don't know how recently he's tried to find them.

There is a great company just down the road in Ft. Collins, Colorado Case, that does custom cases. If you're interested in that option, I would give them a call.

You can find them here: http://www.coloradocase.com/

Thank you (and Michael). The soft case will probably do the trick, but I appreciate the info. No plans to trust it to the airlines in any event.  :)
