McConnell's press secretary Robert Steurer released the Senator's official response: "Senate Leader McConnell looks forward to this new challenger from the entertainment industry, a profession fraught with loose morals and sinful behavior, unlike the honest and honorable job of a being a Washington politician."

I think Sam will push for national banjo owner registration laws

CNN News announces Sam Bush's entry into the competitive 2014 Kentucky Senate race

Atlanta, Ga. — CNN has announced a major shake-up in the 2014 Kentucky Senate race with newgrass legend Sam Bush announcing his candidacy for the position currently held by U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. The announcement was made on Wolf Blitzer's news program The Situation Room.

Scott Wartman, political reporter for the Kentucky and Cincinnati Enquirer observed, "There had been a sigh of relief in the McConnell camp when Ashley Judd finally announced her intention to not run. Quite frankly, her potential candidacy had mostly been a distraction. With the entry of Bush — he'll be far more popular — this is certain to turn into a full blown horse race."

"Sam's politics are unknown at this point, but his name recognition and experience on the stage can only be viewed as a plus," he said. "If every bluegrass musician in the state votes for him, with McConnell's low approval rating, this could potentially cause insurmountable problems for the Senate Leader."

Wartman also observed, "Sam was honored by the Kentucky legislature and is no stranger to the state's politics. Although McConnell is a political legend, many state legislators have not fallen in step with his policies and may be eager to cross over and support the bluegrass star."

McConnell's press secretary Robert Steurer released the Senator's official response: "Senate Leader McConnell looks forward to this new challenger from the entertainment industry, a profession fraught with loose morals and sinful behavior, unlike the honest and honorable job of a being a Washington politician."

About Sam Bush: considered the Father of newgrass music, he was the founder of The New Grass Revival in the 1970s and popularized progressive sounds still heard in today's bluegrass music and performs with his own Sam Bush Band. In March 2010, Legislation passed in Kentucky that officially named Bowling Green the "Birthplace of Newgrass" and Sam Bush the "Father of Newgrass." The Resolution, sponsored by Representative Jim DeCesare, passed the Kentucky Senate 37-0 on March 25. It passed the House on March 3, 99-0.
