[ As we prepare to announce the preliminary 2011 Folks Festival lineup, we wanted to begin introducing you (on the Forum and Facebook) to a few of this year's artists - especially those you might not be familiar with from past Folks Festivals... ]

Brandi Carlile

Sheryl Crow describes Brandi: "She has the most amazing voice I may have ever heard. Soulful. Country. Perfect in every way and propelled by taste."  On her third album, Give Up the Ghost, Washington-native Brandi Carlile collaborated with 2 devoted fans of her music - Elton John and Amy Ray (of the Indigo Girls).  The resulting album mixes beautiful Beatles-esque melodies with Brandi's soaring vocals. It's an album of passionate extremes - the intimate moments are almost uncomfortably personal and the big moments explode out of the speaker - much like her live show.

Her fan love and admiration is infectious - once you've seen Brandi live (and you've recovered from the initial speechless reaction), you'll spend the next week telling everyone you know about her. We are thrilled to welcome Brandi Carlile for her Folks Festival debut this August. Start telling everyone you know right now.

Here is Brandi performing her song "I Will"...
