Over a glass of wine the other night, the daughter of a couple of long-time Festivarians told me not to miss Edward Sharpe.  I had explained to her that, upon the announcement, I checked out about 6 of their songs and wasn't really finding them to be a good fit for me.  But she said that the first time she heard ES, she wasn't that impressed either, but with each subsequent listening, she liked them more and more.   

So I tried again this morning.  I guess maybe I just gotta listen more than twice to "get it".  Maybe their just not my cup of chai. 

Anyone else hearing anything great about these guys that will convince me to forget what I've experienced so far?  I would LOVE to find a new band to get excited about!

 Wave Hi C'John, I'm with you on this one. When plans are made for pilgrimage, I try to listen/buy music from the unfamiliar groups we'll be seeing.  Not really listening to my ESMZ cd and loving Imelda and Mumford so far. Mumford sold out in one day @ The Varsity in Mpls @ $15. Craigslist has scalpers ($100+!!) and ppl wanting to trade their ESMZ with other tix for Mumford. Really glad I won the all access NG pass! Will give them a listen after Sammy but likely head early to the Sheridan. Saw M&Sons last night on Fallon, I like it! Cheers TIME TO LEAVE YET? cu there!

I know you guys don't need to hear me rave anymore about Edward Sharpe anymore, so I'll just say...

It's all about their live energy.  Massive, huge, joyous, ecstatic energy.  Their live show will make you jump incessantly and sing sing sing (even if you don't know the songs) - simply as a way to release some of that energy.  There are times onstage when lead singer Alex Ebert's whole body is quivering because of the energy he is channeling.  It's completely real, completely in the moment, and really something to behold.

Drew's show at the Sheridan will be amazing.  But it's well worth sticking around for at least a couple songs of ESMZ. 

I'm very excited for this set.

They are new to me as well.  I've been compiling my favorite uTubes of all the Fest performers (to be shared when completed) here is what I have for them so far.

I'm intrigued.  I can see why they would be good live, but these videos are more controlled live, then true live....

Regarding ES&MZ, I like it and I think it will be even better live.

I get a real strong hit of the Polyphonic Spree but if they had Devendra Banhart instead of Tim.
