The boys and I travel cross-country every summer.. Normally, we go home for a few days but this year, we may leave directly from Tellurideis slighlty  The Ultimate destination is Williamsburg,VA and the Outer Banks, although I do have plans to meet a friend in CHatanooga. and Tucson ( return).. On the return, I may take small detour to Florida again this year. SO, which way should we go?? Looking for interesting things to see... I prefer non-interstates.... The boys are 9 and 11... THey like quirky things and things like cool aquariums... If anyone has ever stopped into "the HOLE in the WALL CAFE" in New Castle , TX ( best burgers anywhere but middle of nohere seriously), that is now one of their MUST STOPS..LOL...

Have the boys played in the largest sand castle in North America, just 4 hours away from Telluride: Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Take the high road out of TeeRide and visit Durango and the weird and wonderful smelly hot springs of Pagosa Springs. Leaving there you can hit the great bywayhyway up and over to Taos and Sante Fe, then take the old road down to Albu-que-que and stay at a funky motor in...

You could spend a great deal of time in New Mexico! Billy the Kid, Space Museum (that was really cool!), the Caddy Mounument as you cross texas, (while your there, see if Robert Earl Keen is crooning nearby) For a reality check, get the book on tape/cd of the grapes of wrath and play it whilst seeking small towns to adventure and yard sale in) that will cheer them up! (Well, not really, but they will see how fortunate they are!)

Also, if you are headed to Williamsburg, enjoy the movie 1776 before you go. Or buy it and play it all the way there, as they will get to know the songs and the subjects of this great land. ...

Also, I see Elvis in your future by stopping off at Graceland and pay yer respects (on that day, serve the boys Elvis's favorite sandwich!)

just a few thoughts....

good luck,

Warner Fieldavarian once again,  ask around for Tride Scotty the Denver Fireman and thats where you'll find me!
