If I had the choice, I'd get out of  and as far away from the city as I could.  If you like hot springs, you could head down towards Buena Vista and hit all the springs along the collegiate peaks, then check out Crested Butte or go over the hill to Aspen, or go to Pagosa Springs to the Springs Resort, over to Durango, then up to Telluride.  You can always head further south to New Mexico and go to Taos and Santa Fe, Red River and Angel Fire, all around the Enchanted Circle.
The mountains and the scenery in this part of the country should be enjoyed and explored as much as possible.  Lake City, Creede, Breckenridge, Nederland, or Buena Vista and Salida for rafting on the Arkansas is spectacular.
I can guarantee you that even the tiniest towns will have a dive bar with cold beer and some sort of entertainment, even if it is just a jukebox.
You can send for a free Colorado Visitor's Guide at : www.colorado.com
Any place you choose to visit, be it city or country, will be very glad to welcome you.
As a 33-year Colorado resident, I'm a bit prejudiced towards the beauty here that surrounds us, and I just love it when tourists see the mountains for their first time.
You might want to get warmed up before you hit Tride, cuz it's gonna blow your mind! welcome
