I'm not sure this is the correct forum for this question so feel free to slap me if not, but is there a certain agency that most of you on the board go through for lodging during the fest? I've only camped when I've been, but with two tiny children the lodging route might be the way to go for a few years.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve found lodging via a variety of options. Most have been reliable with one exception. Air bnb has completely screwed me around during festival. I’ve been grossly overcharged for a room that had nearly nothing it advertised ( and my bed was a mattress on top of a wardrobe, I’m not kidding) but even worse I’ve had lodging cancelled at last minute more than once as the apartment mysteriously became unavailable in the week before the festival. When you are flying from Australia this becomes a major problem and I ended up paying thousands of extra dollars to score lodgings at the last minute.

My advice is to use the accredited lodging services in town, they are pretty good and to avoid air bnb during festival like the plague ( which is appropriate for this time I guess).

I’m normally a sunshine positive type and I am besotted with PB and the festival. The only thing that really burns me is the way Air bnb owners exploit people coming to the festival. Rotten practises.

Town Park camping is more fun!

I have camped and done lodging (in the pre-AirBnB days), but after nearly freezing last year, I just caved and decided I like a dry warm place to sleep.  I stayed at Manitou 25 years ago for Bluegrass when I was a regular, and it hasn't changed much other than pricing :) It's one of the last non-boujie places to stay in Telluride and I love it.  I highly recommend Alpine Lodging who manages this property and about 300 others.  They are locally operated and the people who answer the phone are locals. Really. Once you book for a festival, you get first dibs on the next year AND a discount on other stays. I live close enough to go down a few times each year and took advantage of that perk.

*I have no financial interest in Alpine Lodging. Just really impressed with their service since I started using them.

I have had the same experience with VRBO and AirBnb in resort towns.  We have had lodging yanked out on short notice because a property sold and the new owners didn't want to honor the bookings.

Great advice, everyone! Thank you and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you at next year's festival!
