My wife and I are going to be going to RockyGrass for the first time for both of us, and camping at LaVern, and are very excited. Looking over the various info available, I had a few questions for folks who may know:

1. Do folks recommend lining up for a spot prior to the 11am opening of the LaVern campground on the 24th? I've seen a couple references to line ups but not sure what material difference it actually makes. If it's worth doing, any idea on when people will be able to start lining up? I'll be spending the night nearby before, so no real issues getting there any time - just want to be respectful of the area and not clog anything up if there's no point.

2. What are the approx size of the camp sites at LaVern? I don't think I saw that info anywhere. I assume that you're just directed to a spot to put your gear but any tips to know about?

3. We have some friends staying at various other spots - is there a problem going to visit other campgrounds?

4. My wife will be arriving later on Thursday, will there be any issue for her to get in and join me?

Cheers! Thanks for any tips and advice!  Cheers

Welcome, Flex.

The rush at opening is mostly for shade/river spots.  Keep in mind that all of the established, permanent camping spots along the river have already been reserved for Tuesday night through the Town of Lyons, and those people will already be set up.  So there won't be many river spots anyways.  If you can get a spot on the north side of the main path, you'll have some shade at various times.  With the expansion of the park, there are more areas to find a good spot.  PB has not confirmed a location for the family area either, but my guess would be the far west side by the big playground.  So yes, the earlier you get there, the better spot you'll get.  But it's a huge park with more room than needed, so even people coming Saturday will find big, open spots.

Camp size is only determined by the boundaries of the park/paths and what you need. If you want to set up a shade tent next to your tent, no problem.  There are many multi-person compounds set up.

Visiting other campgrounds is usually not a problem, especially with your LJ Park pass.  Some volunteers get a little picky, but most will not mind if you let them know it's just for a bit.

As long as your wife has a ticket in hand, or you come up to meet her, no problem.

I hope you're excited.  We love Meadow Park/LJ and can't wait to get back every year.  Cheers

Awesome, this is super helpful - thank you so much! Great to know about being able to set up a shade. I plan on having a West Ham United flag attached to some piece of our camping apparatus so if you see it come say hi!  Thumbs Up
