Not really a camper. Would welcome suggestions. Ideally would like to keep it to no more than $250 a night. Is Boulder too far away to stay?

Not sure why nobody has responded to this yet. All I can say is I've done Rockygrass from a hotel in Boulder twice before, and it works just fine. It's 15 miles from Lyons to the north side of Boulder, where there are some less expensive hotels.
It was really nice not camping the year it rained the entire weekend...(2005 or 07?)
  Cheers

Have you tried looking on airbnb? That's where we had the best luck!

Hi! I'm staying at an airbnb in Longmont, about 15 minutes away.  It was only $30/night for a "bargain basement".  Good deal!

Check AirBNB.  I found several in Longmont.  I always stay in Longmont when I go...
